Engage Jeffco releases the following statement:
We call on the U.S. Department of Education to immediately release these congressionally appropriated funds.
We are alarmed by the U.S. Department of Education’s decision to withhold $71 million in federal funding from Colorado’s public schools, funding that was already appropriated by Congress and is essential to supporting students and educators across our state. Colorado school districts have already planned their budgets, staffing, and programs for the coming school year, and the sudden loss of these funds would be devastating to our students, school staff, and communities. This sudden cut to funding will hit our highest-need learners hardest, including students with disabilities, those living with trauma, students on alternative learning tracks, and those using English as a second language.
We call on the U.S. Department of Education to immediately release these congressionally appropriated funds. Federal education dollars are not optional – they are an essential part of how our school system provides a free, high-quality public education to EVERY student in this country.
Engage Jeffco stands by our commitment to ensure that ALL children have equitable access to a world-class PUBLIC education. Our schools cannot function under uncertainty, and our students have a right to their education.
