Protect Our Transgender Students and Jeffco’s Inclusive Policies for ALL Students

Engage Jeffco has written the following letter in support of the recent decision by the Board of Directors to stand firmly with the district’s inclusive policies.

To the Jeffco Board of Directors and District Leadership,

Engage Jeffco Schools expresses our deep gratitude and support for your recent (and continued) commitment to stand firm in defense of our inclusive district policies that protect transgender and nonbinary students.

At a time when public education has become a political battleground, your leadership has shown what courage looks like. Facing the recent “impending enforcement action” and threats from the U.S. Department of Education to strip our district of up to $90 million in vital federal funding is undoubtedly daunting. Yet, you chose to prioritize the humanity, safety, and dignity of our children over political capitulation. Thank you for rejecting the federal government’s erroneous claims regarding our district’s Title IX compliance—particularly the flawed and debunked allegations surrounding student sports rosters.

By pushing back against these federal overreaches and choosing to align with Colorado’s robust anti-discrimination laws, you have sent a powerful message to every child in Jefferson County: You belong here, you are valued, and we will protect you.

We understand that this stand carries immense weight. As this dispute heads toward potential legal and court battles, the stakes are incredibly high. The outcomes of this conflict will not only define the future of Jefferson County Public Schools but will also establish critical precedents that could impact all school systems statewide. By refusing to back down, you are defending the civil rights of students across the entire state of Colorado.

Moving forward, we hope to see unanimous support from the board directors on this issue, as we believe that true equity requires a unified front.

Please know that as the district navigates the complex legal and administrative challenges ahead, Engage Jeffco Schools stands firmly beside you and offers our support on this issue. We will continue to advocate for inclusive policies and vocalize our support.

Thank you once again for your commitment to equity, your bravery in the face of federal pressure, and your dedication to every single student in Jeffco.
